HHSC to ensure reasonable modifications for those applying for licenses, certifications

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is taking steps to ensure that a qualified person is not unfairly excluded from any health and human services agency license or certification program because of a disability. The action came in the form of a circular distributed to all five health and human services agencies in July.

The circular directs the agencies to include a statement on their applications for licensing and certification exams to let applicants know that if they have a disability and need reasonable modification, the agency will try to accommodate. The statement goes on to tell applicants they can share information about their disability by filling out the Reasonable Modification Request form and a form for the release of medical or provider information.

The HHSC Civil Rights Office is responsible for coordinating the modification process and will keep confidential information and materials related to applicants’ disabilities. To learn more, call the HHSC Civil Rights Office toll free at 888-388-6332 or email HHSCCivilRightsOffice@hhsc.state.tx.us
