    Statement by Gov. Perry Regarding the EPA’s Decision to Disapprove Texas’ Air Permitting Program
    Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding the EPA’s decision to disapprove Texas’ air permitting program: “The EPA’s irresponsible and heavy-handed action not only undermines Texas’ successful clean air programs, but threatens thousands of Texas jobs, families, businesses and communities throughout our state. It will also likely curtail energy supplies and increase gasoline prices nationwide.

    Gov. Perry Appoints Adams to OneStar Foundation
    Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Betty Wu Adams of Austin to the OneStar Foundation for a term to expire March 15, 2013. The foundation connects nonprofits with expertise and resources to build the capacity to meet Texans’ needs, including recruiting and retaining volunteers. The foundation also administers federal AmeriCorps grants, as well as other grants and programs in Texas.

    Gov. Perry Appoints Vines to Bioenergy Policy Council
    Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Danny Vines of Lufkin to the Bioenergy Policy Council for a term to expire Jan. 1, 2012. The council provides a vision to unify Texas’ agricultural, energy and research strengths to foster development within the bioenergy industry to create next-generation biofuels energy research and economic development.

    Gov. Perry Appoints Stoebner-May to Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
    Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Diane Stoebner-May of Montgomery to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for a term to expire Oct. 31, 2015. The board regulates the practice of psychology in the state of Texas.

    Texas is Prepared for Hurricane Alex
    Gov. Rick Perry today outlined Texas’ plans for responding to the threats posed by Hurricane Alex and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill along the Texas coast. The State Operations Center is fully activated and the state continues to work with federal and local authorities to track both the hurricane and the spill.

    Gov. Perry Requests Federal Emergency Declaration in Response to Tropical Storm Alex
    Gov. Rick Perry today sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting a pre-landfall emergency declaration for 19 South Texas counties that allows the state to pursue federal assistance for debris removal and actions taken to prepare for Tropical Storm Alex. The governor has already issued a state disaster proclamation for these counties, which allows the state to initiate necessary preparedness efforts, such as pre-deploying resources to ensure local communities are ready to respond to disasters.

    Gov. Perry Announces Nominations for Star of Texas Awards
    Gov. Rick Perry today announced nominations are currently being accepted for the 2010 Star of Texas Awards, which honor peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical first responders who were killed or sustained a serious injury in the line of duty. Nominations for this year's awards must be submitted by July 31, with the awards ceremony taking place on September 7.
