STAR is a Texas Medicaid managed care program. Most of the Medicaid recipients who live in certain counties must get their health care through the STAR program. In managed care you get your Medicaid services through a health plan. You choose your health plan and primary care provider.

On Sept. 1, 2006, the STAR program expanded to the Nueces Service Area and new health plan choices are available in many of the existing STAR service areas.
