Medicaid Rural Service Area STAR Managed Care Expansion

Starting March 1, 2012, STAR managed care will expand to serve Texas Medicaid clients in 164 rural counties.  The Medicaid Rural Service Area (Medicaid RSA) STAR program will serve clients who are currently covered by the Primary Care Case Management program—if they have Medicaid only. Children age 20 and younger with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may choose between managed care and traditional Medicaid.  Clients of any age who have both Medicaid and Medicare will be covered by traditional Medicaid.
