Support Groups in Texas

Brain injuries can make survivors, families, and friends feel isolated, lonely and overwhelmed. Staying connected with your friends and family, creating a new community, or joining a support group can help prevent isolation and loneliness Support groups provide a safe space for individuals to gather where they can share their stories, have fun, and guide each other through difficult times. Many of the support groups listed below host social events, bring in guest speakers, and are often led by individuals with a vast knowledge of brain injury. We encourage you to get connected and establish your community today!

In-person Brain Injury Support Groups and Communities
There are support groups currently meeting in the following areas:

Other Ways to Connect
If you can't make it to an in-person support group meeting there are still ways that you can connect with other survivors, caretakers, and advocates.

  • Online Communities
    • TryMunity, an online social network site, is a supportive network of people who have had the unique experience of having their lives changed by brain injuries. Whether you’re a survivor, caregiver, friend, or family member, you’re welcome on TryMunity.
    • The TBI Tribe, an international private group on Facebook, was created to create a safe space where TBI survivors, and their friends and family could hang out and share without judgment. Visit the group's page to request to join.
    • Texas TBI Survivors Group, a Texas specific private group on Facebook, was created to create a safe space where TBI survivors, and their friends and family could hang out and share without judgment.
  • Other Support Groups
    • In addition to brain injury specific support groups, there are many cross-disability support groups meeting regularly around the state at the Texas Centers for Independent Living.

We frequently update our support group list and try to keep tabs on all brain injury support groups in Texas. If you would like to add a brain injury support group to our list or update any information, please email us at OABI@hhsc.state.tx.us.
