Texas Nurse-Family Partnership

The Texas Nurse-Family Partnership (TNFP) pair Bachelor’s prepared, registered nurses with low-income, first-time mothers to improve prenatal care and provide one-on-one child development education and counseling.

In the program, women are enrolled early in the second trimester of their pregnancy (by the 28th week of pregnancy), and a nurse begins visiting them. The visits, which usually take place in the family’s home, continue throughout the woman’s pregnancy and until her child is 2 years old. The nurses provide support, education and counseling on health, parenting, developmental issues and life skills.

About the Texas Nurse-Family Partnership

Vision
Building relationships based on the strengths of families one step at a time.

Mission
The Texas Nurse-Family Partnership delivers an evidence-based, nurse home visitation program. The program’s goal is to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development, and self-sufficiency for eligible, first-time parents – for the creation of healthy families and the benefit of future generations.

History
The Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 156 in 2007 to provide an evidence-based nurse home visitation program. The program is designed to improve the health and well-being of low-income, first-time parents and their children. Texas is providing grant funding and support for Nurse Family Partnership sites throughout the state to serve close to 2,000 first-time mothers and their children.

Nurse Family Partnership National Service Office
The Nurse Family Partnership National Service Office provides support through an inter-disciplinary team to the Texas Nurse Family Partnership staff as well as the administrators, nurse supervisors, nurse home visitors, and support staff at each implementing agency. www.nursefamilypartnership.org.
